Facilitation is a process whereby an independent person, who is substantively neutral (the facilitator), intervenes to make group processes more effective.
A facilitator increases group effectiveness and efficiency by optimising the group’s PROCESS and STRUCTURE.
- Process – how a group works together. i.e. how members interact with one another, how problems are identified / solved, how decisions are made, how conflict is handled.
- Structure – the way group process unfolds i.e. group memberships, roles etc.
Our facilitators can assist in the following scenarios:
- Multiple parties are involved in a decision and not everyone is “on the same page”
- Particular personalities are dominating meetings, making it difficult for the right people to contribute
- Meetings are not producing results – focus is lost and time is wasted
- The same issue is being “circled” again and again
- Something happens and a consensus decision needs to be made, urgently
- Discussion has reached an impasse
In all instances, the appointment of an independent facilitator yields the following benefits:
- Ongoing and effective dialogue between all group members;
- An open and non confrontational forum to resolve critical issues that are often avoided;
- Objectives explored, agreed and signed off before the serious work begins;
- Assumptions identified, discussed and clarified;
- Teamwork is fired by trust and collaboration;
- Issues identified and dealt with before they become major problems;
- Expertise in group dynamics available to team; and
- An independent third party to assist with handing conflict.
