Collaborative Project Management

A widely accepted definition of a project is a temporary endeavor, with a definite beginning and end, undertaken to achieve a particular aim. On the basis of this definition, it is virtually impossible to avoid involvement in projects.

We have all been involved in projects that have not gone exactly to plan. At the other end of the scale are projects that seem to generate their own energy and produce outstanding results.

Over the past 10 years we have expended a great deal of effort in understanding the difference between these two scenarios. As a result we have developed an approach to ensure that outstanding results are achieved. We call it Collaborative Project Management™ (CPM).

A critical weakness with many projects lies in inadequate initiation processes. Time and again this proves to be the underlying cause of disappointment and poor outcomes.

The approach based on CPM provides enormous potential to increase effectiveness of the delivery process and to provide real value to the client. CPM also reduces abortive work and wasted effort. This greater efficiency enables the project team to develop more thoughtful solutions and to explore options in greater depth than is normally the case.

The core of the approach involves developing a thorough and comprehensive understanding of client requirements and needs. This is translated into a comprehensive project blueprint or brief. The project team is structured to facilitate collaboration. A strong team focus is maintained in all aspects of the project.

The power of CPM lies in tapping the combined creativity of all those responsible for achieving desired outcomes.
